  • BioJoyce is the founder of Eau Claire Institute of Electrology (founded in 1988). Joyce earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and is a Wisconsin Licensed Electrology Instructor. Joyce is a member of the Wisconsin Electrologists Association and the American Electrology Association. See her full resume. Joyce graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. After working over 11 years in hospital areas of acute care and hemodialysis, where she was involved with the home hemodialysis training program, she became a dermatology nurse, working in the clinic and surgical settings. Her work in the field of dermatology led her to become trained as a electrologist. Joyce graduated from Dr. James Schuster's Electrolysis Research Institute (ERI), School of Electrology in 1988. The ERI School Branch in Eau Claire was managed by Joyce for three years. After its closing, Joyce opened the Eau Claire School of Electrolysis in 1994, now the Eau Claire Institute of Electrology. Joyce is an active member of the Wisconsin Electrologists Association and the American Electrology Association, having served on a number of state and national committees, as well as being a professional witness for the State of Wisconsin. Her level of demonstrated expertise in the field of electrolysis led to invitations as a National Speaker in Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Madison, Omaha, and San Francisco for state and national electrology groups.

A Personal Message from Joyce

What started as a 15 year career in nursing, ended up evolving into a long career as an electrologist and electrology instructor. I never would have predicted that back then, but my desire to connect with people and comfort them led me into this phenomenal field. Nursing emergency calls, holidays and weekend work, long hours of not getting off on time for the family, took it’s toll on the family, and led me into clinical dermatology. Working there, I realized how many women were bothered and even devastated by unwanted hair.

I pursued my training at a school owned by a WI dermatologist and electrology researcher. I found the work challenging and fulfilling. Not only did I take care of my client’s unwanted hair, but I found that I built their self esteem and confidence. My nursing background prepared me well for assessing clients’ skin and possible contributing factors to their hair growth. Starting this career in a dermatology office, I went out on my own and started my business, expanding it with by creating a licensed school of electrology and a staff of licensed electrologists.

I loved learning, reading every book about my profession and joining state and national electrology groups. My enthusiasm and quest for knowledge led to meeting many amazing people in our field and getting invited to work on different electrology professional development groups, as well as requests to lecture across the nation. Electrology has been such a rewarding career, with many of my clients becoming more like friends. Life is full, between my work and family; a husband, our two children and their spouses, and five grandchildren.
